Cosmic Encounter does seem to be a marmite game. I saw Race for the Galaxy in the shop the other day. Might give it a go at some point but we somehow managed to acquire a mound over the New Year period and now have to work through them (played Fury of Dracula on Thursday – great fun!).
Race is a lot like Puerto Rico the card game. (But, unlike San Juan, it’s good). It is criticised for feeling like a solitaire experience, but it’s actually rather more intelligent than that.
I’m otherwise out of touch with the latest German games. I hear Agricola is good.
