Many liberals feel free to express anti-Christian prejudice because Christianity is antithetical to their political being.

When I ran a raft of record labels in the 1970s & 80s, I cut several Gary Glitter albums and I honestly think he would have worked better for the Lib Dems than Brian Eno.

'We know him as the connoisseur of hardcore pornography; the man who once fucked six groupies in one day before collapsing; the occasional transvestite; the man who started work on a male aphrodisiac perfume for Unilever in 1977; who once pissed in Duchamp’s urinal as an artistic statement.'

On the other hand, maybe he is just perfect.

There is a thread on LDV that has got Matthew heated. I guess he is just coming here to vent. Perhaps you are a kind of father figure of the Lib Dem blogosphere.

... and on a lighter note: it was only quite recently that I worked out that "the funny song with wossname and thingy that I sing indistinctly when I'm drunk" was called "Fairytale of New York". I knew most of the words for years without knowing its title. I bet Nick does know it, he just doesn't know that's what it's called.

However I don't wish to distract you two...

I didn't say you had criticised him, but I did suggest that some of the comments coming out from others about this issue do "put all this Christianophobia guff into perspective” in the sense that they suggest it does exist and many liberals feel free to express anti-Christian prejudice in a way that they would feel ashamed were it prejudice against any other minority culture.

I haven't criticised him for allowing his wife to raise his children as Catholics. All I said was that, asked if he believed in God, he should have answered "no" and be done with it. I didn't even mention the stuff about his family.

I don't know where you get these deluded paranoid fantasies. Grow up.

The bile poured out on Clegg form certain "liberals" for allowing his children to have some knowledge of his wife's culture does, indeed, "put all this Christianophobia guff into perspective". What these "liberals" are saying is "you can bring up your kids any way you like. so long as it's a way I approve of". Ever wonder why people like Odone get a bit paranoid? Maybe Clegg should have said to his wife "Shut up dear, I'll determine how we bring up our children, and you'll do what I say". Or maybe he should have divorced her on the grounds that in politics these days it's unacceptable to be married to a Catholic.
