    Neil Hamilton’s contribution perhaps highlights the fact that he was caught – in a court of law…… doesn’t this show you that a statute is the only way to really establish whether politicans accused of lying are, in fact liars or not?

    Not at all. He wasn’t caught in a court of law, he was caught by the Commons (via the Guardian). It was only later that he sued Fayed – and lost. Neil Hamilton was booted out of the Commons – he’s proof that self-regulation works.
