ALL glaciers melt. And they do this so slowly that no-one will notice anything even if they stand there all day. This was so even at the end of the Ice Age.

If any of these schoolkids think they're going to watch a glacier dissolve before their eyes, they will be sorely disappointed.

Far better to show the kids some real environmental damage. Like the Itoitz Dam, for example (throw in cultural vandalism and ethnic cleansing). Or the 1000s of acres of former industrial land which cannot be developed because of soil contamination. And if you really want to see the effects of extreme weather, go to the top of Toys Hill, Kent, where the 1987 hurricane felled 90% of mature trees - a truly shocking sight.</description>
